    Alleppey, famous for its beautiful backwaters is a city located in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Alleppey is known as the “Venice of the East”. Alleppey is the access point for the annual Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race, which is held, held on second Saturday of August every year. It is the most popular of the boat races in India. This event is named after the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. In this tournament the winners get a trophy in the form of a silver snake boat on a wooden pedestal.
